The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Criticisms and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
